This change in filing fees could not have come at a worse time for many who have worked so hard to save for the filing of their immigration petitions. Beginning December 23, 2016, the filing fees for fees increased for two applications typically needed when a U.S. citizen petitions for permanent residency for a spouse who has entered the United States legally.

USCIS changes filing fees every so often, with the last major change taking place six (6) years ago. However, immigration application fees are already steep.

The I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status will increase from $985 to $1,140. The other application, the I-130 Petition for Alien Relative, will jump from $420 to $535. Therefore, if you were on the fence about filing these applications, it would help you to file those applications before December 23, 2016. Contact me today at 251-943-4870 to help you.
