I am a member of several crafting and home decor groups on Facebook. I have met a lot of wonderful people.

Today, one of the ladies in one of those groups posted about a personal dilemma that she has faced recently. It could have been avoided had the proper estate planning been put in place and had her mother handled her previous affairs prior to passing away.

Long story short oh, her mother had been separated from her husband for almost 20 years. Her mother did not have any estate planning documents in effect. She suddenly took a turn for the worse oh, that came out of nowhere. She was left on life support to keep her alive. Her two daughters arrived to make decisions on her behalf; her husband has not been around since they separated.

Unfortunately, the two daughters were told they could not make any decisions on behalf of their mother. The hospital let them know that because she was married, how to handle their mother’s end-of-life decision making fell on the husband.

During this horribly stressful time, the two women were left to try and find the estranged husband on their own. This is at a time when the only concern that they should have had was their mother. Not trying to track down some man who hasn’t been there to support and love their mother in almost two decades.

Sadly, their mother passed away earlier this week.

You never know when life is going to take its toll. You never know when your time has come. Do not wait until it is too late to do something about it. Get your affairs in order to save your family further heartache and stress.
